Booking a first fertility consultation is a big step. Many people feel nervous, unsure what will happen, or worried they will forget something important. A little preparation can help you feel calmer and get the most from your appointment.
This guide explains what to bring, what usually happens on the day, and the questions you may want to ask. Your first consultation with Dr. Koç is free.
Before Your Appointment
- Book a time that suits you both. If you have a partner, try to come together. Fertility is about both of you, and it helps if you both hear the same information.
- Write down your history. Note how long you have been trying to conceive, any past pregnancies or miscarriages, and any treatment you have already had.
- Track your cycle. If you can, note the first day of your last few periods and how long your cycles usually last.
- Write down your questions. It is easy to forget them on the day. A list on your phone works well.
- Living abroad? Contact us before you travel. You can send your results ahead, and we can tell you how to plan your visit.
What to Bring
Bring copies of anything that might help Dr. Koç understand your situation. You do not need every item on this list. If some records are not in English or Turkish, bring them anyway and let us know.
- Past test results: Blood tests, such as hormone tests and AMH, and ultrasound reports.
- Your partner's results: Any previous semen analysis.
- Treatment records: Details of any earlier IUI or IVF cycles, including medication doses, how many eggs were collected, and how the embryos developed.
- Surgery and scan reports: For example from a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy or a test of the fallopian tubes.
- Your medication list: All medicines, vitamins and supplements you take, with doses.
- Other health conditions: Information about any conditions you or your partner have, such as thyroid problems or diabetes.
Copies or photos of your documents are fine. Keep the originals safe.
What Happens at the Consultation
Every consultation is different, but it usually includes:
- A conversation about your history. Dr. Koç will ask about your health, your cycle, how long you have been trying and any past treatment. Some questions are personal, but they help him understand your situation.
- A review of your results. He will look at the tests and records you bring.
- An ultrasound scan, if needed. An ultrasound can show the uterus and ovaries, and give an idea of your egg supply.
- Next tests. You may be asked to have further tests, such as hormone tests on certain days of your cycle or a semen analysis. Read more about fertility assessments.
- Your options. Dr. Koç will explain what he thinks is happening and which treatments may suit you, from simpler options such as IUI to IVF.
Questions You May Want to Ask
- What do you think may be causing our difficulty?
- Which tests do we need, and why?
- Which treatments might suit us, and why?
- What are the risks and side effects of the treatment you suggest?
- How long would treatment take, and how many visits would we need?
- What will the treatment cost, and what is included?
- Is there anything we can do now to improve our chances?
- If we live abroad, which parts of the treatment can be done at home, and how long would we need to stay in Istanbul?
There are no silly questions. If something is not clear, ask Dr. Koç to explain it again.
After the Consultation
You do not need to decide anything on the day. Take time to think about what you heard and talk it over together. Many people find it helpful to write down the main points as soon as they leave.
If you have more questions later, you can contact our team by phone, WhatsApp or email. If you decide to go ahead, we will explain the next steps and help you plan your treatment.
Already Had Treatment Elsewhere?
If you have had fertility treatment before and want a fresh view of your case, Dr. Koç also offers a free second opinion. Send us your records and he will review them and explain what he would recommend.
