Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) checks embryos for chromosomal abnormalities and certain genetic diseases before they are placed in the uterus. It is done as part of IVF. At Dr. Mehmet Koç's office, your plan is built around your medical history and genetic risk factors.
How PGT Works
- Consultation: Dr. Koç reviews your medical history, genetic risk factors and goals, then creates your plan.
- Creating embryos: Eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory through IVF. The embryos then grow in the laboratory for several days.
- Embryo biopsy: A small number of cells are taken from each embryo for genetic analysis.
- Genetic testing: The cells are tested for chromosomal abnormalities and specific genetic diseases.
- Choosing embryos: The test results help us select embryos for transfer.
- Embryo transfer: One or more embryos are placed in the uterus, guided by ultrasound.
- Pregnancy test: A blood test about two weeks after the transfer shows whether you are pregnant. We continue to support and monitor you during this time.
