Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Embryologist performing Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) to inject a single sperm directly into an egg in a laboratory setting

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a form of IVF in which a single sperm is injected directly into each mature egg. It helps fertilization take place, especially in cases of male infertility. At Dr. Mehmet Koç's office, your treatment is planned around your own health and goals.

How ICSI Works

  1. Consultation: Dr. Koç reviews your medical history, fertility health and goals, then creates your treatment plan.
  2. Ovarian stimulation: You take fertility medication so your ovaries produce several eggs. We track your progress with blood tests and ultrasound scans.
  3. Egg retrieval: Mature eggs are collected from the ovaries in a minimally invasive procedure under light anesthesia.
  4. Sperm injection: In the laboratory, a single sperm is injected into each mature egg with a fine needle under a microscope.
  5. Embryo development: The fertilized eggs grow in the laboratory for several days. We then choose the embryos best suited for transfer, based on how they develop and their quality.
  6. Embryo transfer: One or more embryos are placed in the uterus, guided by ultrasound.
  7. Pregnancy test: A blood test about two weeks after the transfer shows whether you are pregnant. We continue to support and monitor you during this time.
