Advanced Genetic Testing for Tay-Sachs Disease at Dr. Mehmet Koç’s office

Tay-Sachs Disease is a severe genetic disorder that causes progressive damage to nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Children with Tay-Sachs typically show symptoms such as muscle weakness, motor skill decline, and loss of vision and hearing, eventually leading to death in early childhood. At Dr. Mehmet Koç’s office, we offer advanced genetic testing services to screen for Tay-Sachs Disease, helping you make informed decisions about your family planning.

How Testing Works

  1. Consultation: We review your medical and family history, and your plans for a family.
  2. Counseling: We explain the test, what the results can and cannot show, and your options.
  3. Testing: A blood or saliva sample is sent for laboratory analysis.
  4. Results: We go through your results with you and discuss the next steps.

If you are having IVF, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) can check embryos for certain inherited conditions before transfer. Testing has limits, and we will explain them during your consultation.
